Regular festival attendees have revealed their top tips for an epic music event, and they include having a stash of dry shampoo and using chewing gum for squeaky clean breath.

The inside scoop, from a survey of 1,000 adults experienced in overnight festival stays, suggests that bringing your own toilet roll tops the list of must-haves.

Additional advice covers everything from hair plaiting techniques to doing a test run in the shoes you plan to bring along. Not forgetting the multi-purpose utility of a bin bag it doubles as an impromptu poncho when the weather turns sour.

For a solid one-third of festivalgoers, there's no surviving the extended festivities without a portable charger, while a trusty hairbrush is another non-negotiable for maintaining those luscious locks.

For those craving a silent night amidst the chaos, earplugs make it into the toolkit of 17% of the crowd while half of all campers wouldn't venture out without their trusted wet wipes, perfect for tackling any spontaneous messes or mishaps.

Commissioned by VO5 for their Festival Edits series, which is jam-packed with curated guides that inspire festival enthusiasts to dive into the latest hair trends and discover their distinct festival fashion flair.

Rachel Hawes of VO5 commented: "It's easy not to feel your best at a festival. But people are getting increasingly creative with their routines to stay looking and feeling fresh throughout the camping weekend."

She added: "While campsites offer options to stick to your usual shower and hair wash routines, it's also fun to embrace festival life and play with hairstyle trends and outfits among friends, from glitter partings to space buns."

The study revealed that a quarter of festival-goers feel the need to freshen up as early as day one, while over half are itching for a wash by day two.

Consequently, nearly half have queued for an average of 22 minutes just to shower at a music festival. Meanwhile, 41% have tackled their tresses, with 21% resorting to a bottle of water and 10%using a water refill station.

Additionally, 16% splurged on professional hair styling at pop-up salons, shelling out an average of £23.70, whereas 13% preferred a friend's touch for their festival hairdo.

The research also highlighted that 14% of festival-goers dread dealing with their hair, opting for styles like ponytails (45%), French plaits (20%), and half up half down (17%) to keep looking sharp.

Trendy looks such as bubble braids, space buns, and glitter partings were also popular choices to maintain a fresh appearance.

Moreover, 28% meticulously plan their outfits in advance, 36% wash their hair right before setting off, and 22% even get a haircut to prep for the event.

Rachel Hawes from VO5 chimed in, saying: "The list of festival hacks proves there are many things music fans can pack to stay feeling fresh including essential toiletries and more unsuspected items such as buckets and bin bags."

"With more and more festival goers looking to test out fun hair trends this season, we're on hand to ensure everyone can keep their hair Instagram ready all weekend long."
